Working closely with publisher Watanabe Shōzaburō, Hasui created hundreds of woodblock designs depicting Japan and, occasionally, Korea and other regions he visited. His work is particularly admired for its atmospheric treatment of rain, snow, moonlight, dusk, and quiet architectural settings.
